Among the 10 companions of Rasulullah who'd been promised Paradise by Allah is Abdullah b. Jahsy. He was the cousin and also the brother-in-law of Rasulullah. His mother was Umaimah bt Abdul Muthalib, who was also the paternal aunt of Rasulullah while his sister Zainab bin Jahsy married Rasulullah and became among ummuhatul mukminin.
Abdullah b. Jahsy was among the earliest person to say his Syahadatain in front of Rasulullah and was listed among the As-Sabiqun Al-Awwalun.

The Hijr
Abdullah bin Jahsy involved in both hijrs to Habsyah and Madinah. During the latter hijr, his family came along with him. Leaving his wealth and home behind did somehow upset him. For everything he worked and sweated before would surely be taken by Quraisy in Mecca. And so, he complained the matter to Rasulullah in which Rasulullah replied virtuously, "Allah will guarantee you a better home in Jannah".
For his patience and perseverance, he and Saad b. Al-Waqas won Rasulullah's trust to lead the muslim army and he was entrusted to carry Muslim's first ever flag (some other riwayas said it was Hamzah b Abd Mutalib). For that, he was called Amirul Mukminin.

The Platoon of Nakhlah.
To cut the story short, this happened in the month of Rejab when Rasulullah sent Abdullah bin Jahsy to Nakhlah and lead the platoon. He was also being given a secret letter from Rasulullah whereby he was instructed to open it only after two days. It was an order for Abdullah and his platoon to intercept a caravan of Quraisy. However, the caravan wasn't only carrying food and etc, notable polytheist (Amr bin Al-Hadrami, ‘Uthman and Naufal, sons of ‘Abdullah bin Al-Mugheerah and others) were there to. So, Abdullah re-consulted his platoon following the action that should be taken and they unanimously agreed to engage in fighting knowing that it was a sacred months (in which fighting and war activities are banned, other sacred months are Dhul Hijja, Dhul Qa‘da and Muharram).
And yes, the Messenger disapproved the action. On the other side, Quraisy people and other polytheists used this golden opportunity to defame muslims. Rasulullah's companion, Abdullah bin Jahsy was sad and dejected with this tumult. But Allah is Ghafoor and Raheem. Abdullah bin Jahsy was relieved when the Revelation came down stating that what the polytheist did was faaaaar more heinous.
“They ask you concerning fighting in the sacred months (i.e. 1st, 7th, 11th and 12th months of the Islamic calendar). Say, ‘Fighting therein is a great (transgression) but a greater (transgression) with Allah is to prevent mankind from following the way of Allah, to disbelieve in Him, to prevent access to Al-Masjid-Al-Haram (at Makkah), and to drive out its inhabitants, and Al-Fitnah is worse than killing.” [Al-Qur'an 2:217]
After that, the captives were released and blood money was given to the killed man’s father.
A martyr in war
Abdullah bin Jahsy was killed in Ghazwatul Uhud, in exact way he'd prayed to Allah. ::taken from here::
Doa Saad bin Waqqash r.a:
“Ya Allah, pertemukanlah aku dengan musuh yang paling buas dan jahat. Aku akan melawannya dan berilah aku kemenangan”
“Ya Allah, pertemukanlah aku dengan musuh yang jahat dan buas. Aku akan melawannya dan aku tewas ditangannya. Dia kemudian memotong hidung dan telingaku”
